We currently have more than 70 German students studying with us here at Essex. We have a very international outlook with more than a third of our students coming from outside of the UK with over 135 nationalities represented.
The Essex Law Clinic offers you the opportunity to integrate theory with practical experience and draw together different strands of your studies. It prepares you to deal with the cutting edge of legal practice. This means not only individual cases but also working on finding solutions to current problems such as how information technology can be used to improve access to justice. Or join our Human Rights Centre Clinic, one of the oldest academic Human Rights Centres in the world and enables students to apply their human rights knowledge to practical situations and further develop their professional skills, working in partnership with civil society organisations, international organisations, governments and national human rights institutions.

Application deadline
We accept applications between September to June
Undergradaute courses mostly ask for IELTS 6.0 or equivalent from TOEFL, CAE, Pearson etc.
Masters courses usually ask for IELTS 6.5 overall with a minimum component score of 5.5 except for 6.0 in writing or equivalent from TOEFL, CAE, Pearson etc.
Undergraduate:
IB: 30 points or three Higher Level certificates with 555, including a Higher Level essay-based subject grade 5.
We are also happy to consider a combination of separate IB Diploma Programmes at both Higher and Standard Level. Exact offer levels will vary depending on the range of subjects being taken at higher and standard level, and the course applied for. Please contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office for more information.
Austria: Most of our Undergraduate Bachelor degree courses will consider 2 (Good) from the Reifeprufungszeugnis/Maturazeugnis.
Germany: Award of the Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife (Abitur) with 2.1-2.5 overall, with 11 in on essay-based subject and 10 in English.
Switzerland: Most of our Undergraduate Bachelor degree courses will consider a 5.0 overall average from Certificat de Maturite.
Equivalent to a 2:2. Degree in Law or a joint honours Degree with Law. Applicants who do not hold a Law Degree but who have additional relevant professional experience and/or traineeships or professional qualifications/certifications issued by professional bodies such as Bar Associations can apply and will be considered.
Austria: The majority of our Postgraduate Taught Masters will consider applicants with 2.2 (Gut) from an Austrian Bachelor degree.
Germany: The majority of our Postgraduate Taught Masters will consider applicants with 3 or above from Bachelor degree.
Switzerland: The majority of our Postgraduate Taught Masters will consider applicants with 4.25 from a Swiss Bachelor degree.
We offer student accommodation for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students a range of accommodation wih flats of four to sixteen students.
